1st Rule of Civility

I'll be going through each of these rules of civility by George Washington every day... well I'll try to. Here is the first one, as copied by George Washington.

1st Every Action done in Company, ought to be with Some Sign of Respect, to those that are Present.

All of George Washington's rules of civility teach us how to respect others that are around us. This rule is essentially the foundation for all the others that follow.

This rule says that whatever we do we should show respect to those that are present. We should respect others because the golden rule says, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Also because Jesus said, "Love thy neighbor as thyself". If others aren't shown respect than why should they show respect to us? If we want friends than WE have to be friendly and respect them as much as we can.
