"You've Got It Kid! You've Got It!"

Today I had an interesting talk with a man. He looked quite old in years. His life had been long and hard. He began to talk with me. As I listened, he imparted true wisdom. Here are some of the things he told me (he repeated things for clarity and greater emphasis):

"You've got it kid! You've got it! Don't let people tell you otherwise. I know you will do great things one day. Get a good education! Remember to get a really good education! Follow your dreams kid! Go for number one! You've got it!"

Keep in mind, I had never met this man. He just began talking to me after my dad introduced me and I just listened. It sounded almost prophetic. It was as if God wanted this man to tell me this for a reason. Later as we headed home, I pondered over what he had said. He had told me what he had done at 17. I was astounded. He had bought his own car, was working two part-time jobs, and did a great many other things that I have yet to start. He said that his daughter worked at a place where kids were handicapped. I think that what he meant by, "You've got it," was that I didn't have a mental or physical problem. I don't have a family to take care of yet. I am free to learn all I want. I can be anything that God wants me to be. Nothing is holding me back. I have a choice to make something of my life; to use it to serve God and bring Him glory in all I do. Why wait until I am his age and regret the choices I have made?

He also advised me to not think about women just yet. Here's what he said, as I recall: "Listen kid. Don't be thinking about women. They'll fill up your mind and you won't think straight. Like when you can't see the sun because the clouds are in the way. Thinking about women will distract you from getting a good education. Start thinking about your future today. You can be anything you want to be! Just go for it!"

Now I think education is good. Don't get me wrong. But what he failed to mention even once was that we are here to glorify our Creator. Getting a good education is great so long as we are using it for the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31-33) And I also agree that thinking about women before I am ready for marriage will cloud my thinking. I need to be able to provide for a family before I think about looking for a wife and starting a family of my own. I trust that God will lead me. His plans are much greater than mine. I look forward to what he has in store for me.

2010!

Hey everybody. I'm sorry I haven't posted in such a while. I'll try and be more active on this blog. I've just been so busy. It's the beginning of the year and things have really began to happen for me. You probably are pretty busy as well. Anyway, I just thought I'd write this short post to say hello to all of you. Ok then, so long now.

Death Comes Unexpectedly

Recently I've been thinking about death. I know, it seems weird. With the loss of my little brother, Christian, I've thought a lot about it. Death comes unexpectedly. Only God knows when people will die and how long they have to live. But it is our duty to glorify God in our daily lives. "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

My uncle Kenny often says, "10 out of 10 people die" and, although it's somewhat comical, it's also very true. We'll all die. We were born into sin and because of sin there is death. That is the consequences. Death. We shouldn't be surprised when death comes. God said it would. But this life is not all that we have. Peter speaks of a living hope in 1 Peter. We have a living hope. My uncle Kenny has been preaching expository sermons and has been going through 1 Peter. Every week I am learning so much more about 1 Peter. If you feel God has treated you unfairly, possibly with suffering, read 1 Peter. Peter is writing to the early church which was undergoing persecution. He encourages them to look forward to a living hope.

And as we learn in Scripture, life is but a vapor. It comes quickly and goes quickly. Life is precious. Let us not take it for granted.

And even when death does come, we should thank God for His blessings, and praise Him for all the life around us. I'm not saying don't mourn. We should grieve for those who die. But we must also remember to thank God for life.

How I love the Incarnation

Recently, as many of you may know, I (along with some cousins of mine) have been reading On the Incarnation by St. Athanasius. It has been so refreshing. When I begin thinking about all that God did on our behalf so that we might no longer be under the dominion of death, but have life, I stand amazed. We don't deserve it at all. We spat in His face and yet He was laying down His life for us. The Word made flesh was paying the price for our sins (John 1:1).

I like it the way Athanasius puts it: "For by the sacrifice of His own body He did two things: He put an end to the law of death which barred our way; and He made a new beginning of life for us, by giving us the hope of resurrection. By man death has gained its power over men; by the Word made Man death has been destroyed and life raised up anew." Chapter II, pg.37

God paid the penalty. He let us live. And He conquered death with the cross. God is immortal and cannot die and this is why He put Himself into a human body which was capable of death. The Word of the Father, the Son of God, died so that we might live for all eternity.

It blows me away. I continually ask myself, "Why? Why God? Why do this for me?" My only answer is that He did it out of His love for us. May we forever praise Him. Thank God for the Incarnation of Jesus Christ.

Latest News...

Yesterday was the Jr. Speech Tournament. It was fun and I think everyone had a fantastic time... I did anyway. I watched some Duos, Impromptus, and poems. The competitors did wonderful.

I realize that the bigger tournaments for the older children are close at hand. Finally, I have chosen a duo for my sister and me. We'll be doing the classic, "Cheaper by the dozen." Yeah, that should be fun to act out. My plan is to write it and perform it Tuesday night for our Speech Club. This speech will be done soon. So long now.

Time

I am sitting here in my Grandpa's office just getting ready for bed (it's late, I know) and I was contemplating time. Yes, time. What is time? I looked it up in Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary. Believe me, there are different meanings of the word time.

1. A particular portion or part of duration, whether past, present, or future
2. A proper time; a season
3. Duration
4. A space or measured portion of duration
5. Life or duration, in reference to occupation
6. Age; a part of duration distinct from other parts
7. Hour of travail
8. Repetition; repeated performance
9. Repetition; doubling; addition to a number itself
10. Measure of sounds in music
11. The state of things at a particular period
12. In grammar, tense. In time, in good reason

But not only did I want to give different meanings of time. I wanted to say that we often think of how much time we have, or, as I often think, how little time we have. I have been quite busy lately (as we all have been most likely) and thinking things like, "I don't have enoungh time!" Now I am just realizing how little time we have before we are gone and out of this life. It will come soon enough and we must be ready for it. We must do well with the time God has given us. I'm sitting here in my room waiting for inevitable. Yes. Destiny, Natalie Emmons, My Mom, & Grandma-Dot are flying out for Alabama today. 'Tis sad but we must all live with it.

What I guess I mean is that although they will be leaving we will see them again.

• went out to eat with my Grandma-Dot, Uncle Troy, and Alexander Goldman.
• played music with Alex which was great fun(!).
• did a singing lesson.
• had a lot of FUN!

OK, so what do I post about?

Hmmm...

Oh yes. Well, I like to sing.

Actually, let me make that clearer.

I like to sing but others don't like it when I sing. But...really it depends on what I sing. Of course...Even if I sing a song when I do, the one who's listening must enjoy it too.

You see, someone might like the song that I sing but not like how I sing it. Others might like how I sing the song but not like the song themselves. You now can see that it is very hard! to please everyone. In fact... It's impossible!

One more thing to add is that even if they do like the song & how I sung it, they might not like the time that I chose to sing that song at!

Life is full of obstacles but we just gotta' keep on movin' forward.

I'm back into chess

Since not going to chess club, I haven't been working on chess very often. I sort of took a break from it.
But recently I have been playing games of chess and I can see that my old vigilance is failing.
It has been a struggle over my cousins & siblings just to win a game (if any at all) and so I'm getting my old chess books back out once again.
There is nothing wrong with losing it's just that... I want to improve so that I'll be more of a challenge to others.
Study hard (if you like chess that is) because that's what I'll be doing these next couple weeks.
This isn't to say that I am dropping other stuff.
I will still be doing school and lots of work too.

Is There a God?

Of late, I have been doing the Omnibus curriculum with my 4 cousins and uncle (who teaches and guides us). It has been very time-consuming but I have learned so much through it this year. Anyway, today on the way to school I thought about a question, "What if an unbeliever has never heard of the gospel and dies before ever hearing it? Will God grant that person eternal life? After all, they didn't know did they?" Suddenly I remembered Rom. 1 and read it again. I found myself quite mistaken.


"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." (Rom. 1:18-20)

Let's pause right here. This is clearly saying that men see God's creation and know there is a God. So men know there is a God when they say that there is not one? Yes! They suppress the Truth. This text also says "they are without excuse" which means that they cannot say God doesn't exist or doesn't show himself to them because His creation is all around them! They know but do not acknowledge Him. We see this in the next verse.

"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened." (Rom. 1:21) It says "they became futile in their thinking." "This world evolved" some will say. How could it have! "The heavens declare the glory of God..." (Ps. 19:1) How can an entire universe with stars, planets, oceans, animals, plants and trees, men and women, and so much more evolve from simply nothing? Well, I'll tell you how. It can't. This world is so intricately designed and so fabulously knit together that it most certainly could NOT have evolved. It doesn't make sense that we, and everything else here, just randomly and suddenly evolved. "Claiming to be wise, they became fools..." (Rom. 1:22)


Unbelievers know their is a God but suppress that truth in all unrighteousness and become fools by this. You simply cannot make sense of anything in this world without an all-sovereign, covenant-keeping, and triune God.

It is very hot.

Today it is scorching outside. It is ulmost boiling. It's crazy! I just want a pool. I am hot and I want a pool. That's how I'm feeling right now.

I am doing shool.

Right now I am doing school. It isn't all that I do although it is much of what I do. Does that make sense? I hope so. Okay, I just wanted to quickly pass that message on to you all. Bye now.

Hey everyone! I just put comments back on my blog and thought I would share that with you all. Oh, and I also wanted to say that this post was done with my new typing skills (I never really learned how to type before). I got a haircut.

A couple of days ago I received a haircut from a barber and before he started cutting away we said something like this...

Barber: "So how do you want your hair?"

Me: "Uh, well, I just want you to cut some off around the edges but not as much on top."

Barber: "Right. How do you want your bangs?"

Me: "Oh I don't want them too short either."

Barber: "Okay so you want everything short but not too short. Right?"

Me: "Yeah. I guess so."

Barber: "Alright."

Me: "You know just do whatever you want. I don't care! It will grow back pretty quick anyway. You do what you think is best."

My Camera is Dead! "CRYING"

My camera broke about 2 weeks ago "sneeze" and I'm still recovering from the effects of this tragedy. It pains me to talk of it and I don't know if It'll ever get fixed "grabbing another tissue" but I want you all to know that when it is fixed I will be posting pictures. Until then, expect none other (pictures) than the ones I already have on my lap-top.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

I just finished reading "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells and it was interesting. I thought it would be somewhat different but it still was quite intriguing. It is about a man who builds a time machine and goes 800,000 years into the future. While there, he discovers queer creatures and ends up having to hunt down his time machine so he can return home. I was thinking maybe I could do a speech on it but it just wouldn't do. I will keep reading and maybe I could find one of you people a speech to act out next year. Isn't It a Nice Day?

Today was great. But wait! It's NOT over yet. I still might be practicing my Duo with Kaila later today (which CAN be fun, I guess) and then it will be night time. So... I did work on my other speech and I hear Devin and Destiny in the other room practicing their Duo but I still got to do the Duo I am in. I am glad that I get to be going to Regionals though and I think it will be fun! So long.
